1. Heat Exhaustion:
Symptoms:
- Heavy sweating
- weakness
- Cool, pale, clammy skin
- Fast, weak pulse
- Possible muscle cramps
- Dizziness
- Nausea or vomiting
- Fainting
Treatment:
- Move to a cooler environment
- Lie down and loosen your clothing
- Apply cool, wet cloths to as much of your body as possible
- Sip water
- If you have vomited and it continues, seek medical attention immediatly.
Dietary guidelines:
- Stay hydrated, drinking water through out day.
- Avoid high-protein foods as they can increase metabolic heat
- Eat smaller, more frequent meals rather than large meals
2. Heat Stroke:
Symptoms:
- Altered mental state
- One may experience confusion, agitation, slurred speech, irritability, delirium, seizures, and coma
- Body temperature above 103 F
- Hot, red, dry, or moist skin
- Rapid and strong pulse
- Possible throbbing headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Unconsciousness
Treatment:
- Call 911 immediately — this is a medical emergency
- Move the person to a cooler environment
- Reduce the person's body temperature with cool cloths or even a bath
- Do NOT give fluid
Dietary guidelines:
- Maintain adequate hydration
- During hot weather, increase fluid intake regardless of activity level
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and high-sugar drinks, as they can cause further dehydration
3. Heat Rash:
Symptoms:
- Red cluster of pimples or small blisters
- Usually on the neck, chest, groin, or in elbow creases
- Treatment:
- Stay in a cool, dry place
- Keep the rash dry
- Use powder (like baby powder) to soothe the rash
Dietary guidelines:
- Stay hydrated
- Avoid spicy food, as it can increase body heat
Symptoms:
- Increased thirst
- Dry mouth and swollen tongue
- Weakness
- Dizziness
- Palpitations (feeling that the heart is jumping or pounding)
- Confusion
- Sluggishness fainting
- Inability to sweat
- Decreased urine out put
Treatment:
- Drink fluids (water, sports drinks)
- Seek medical help if symptoms are severe

5. Sunburn:
Symptoms:
- Red, tender skin that is warm to the touch
- Blisters that develop hours to days later
- Severe reactions (also called sun poisoning), including fever, chills, nausea, or rash
- Peeling skin several days after the sunburn
Treatment:
- Take frequent cool baths or showers to help relieve the pain
- Use a moisturizer that contains aloe vera or soy to help soothe sunburned skin
- Consider taking aspirin or ibuprofen to help reduce any swelling, redness and discomfort
- Drink extra water
Dietary guidelines:
- Stay hydrated
- Eat foods high in antioxidants to help repair the skin (e.g., berries, nuts, seeds, leafy greens)
- Consume foods rich in vitamins C and E which are beneficial for skin healing.
